On-site firewall and anti-virus
installation Many of the new appliance firewalls are easy to configure
and install. However, particularly on a site which is connecting to the
Internet at the same time as installing the firewall, there are many other
configuration jobs to be done and tested:
- Making the e-mail server accessible from the Internet
- Domain Name System (DNS) issues
- moving server machines to the firewall's DMZ
(demilitarized zone)
- configuring Microsoft Windows Networking and WINS
servers, to operate over a routed network, especially if you are using VPN
As part of our installation work we familiarize you with the
management of the new network components so that you can easily handle the
day-to-day running of your network.
Network consultancy If you are
having performance or other network problems, our engineers can work with you
on-site to explore your network, analyze what's happening and decide how to fix
the problems. If you want to re-build or extend your network, in
conjunction with you we can design a resilient network that performs well and
is easy to manage.
Training courses We offer four
courses which are run on your site. You can customize the courses by choosing
from what is in effect a "menu" of our standard material
Training course: Using packet sniffers and protocol
analyzers (two days) This training course covers the following
tools:
- the tcpdump packet sniffer
- the ethereal protocol analyzer
- the Windows Network Monitor protocol analyzer (standard
version and extended SMS version)
and shows how to install and use each
one. Practical labs in the course show you how to:
- select only the packets you are interested in
- drill down into the data you have captured
- use the traces to investigate network problems and find
bugs in software implementations of the TCP/IP protocols
- convert between different data capture formats
Training course: SonicWALL firewall installation and
management (three days)
- basic SonicWALL concepts
- building a test network
- standard mode installation
- network address translation mode (NAT) installation
- allow/deny specific types of traffic
- installing site-to-site VPN
- installing dial-up client VPN
- debugging your setup
- day-to-day management
Training course: Managing and understanding your Internet
and TCP/IP network (three to five days)
- TCP/IP routing made simple
- IP addressing and the magic subnet mask. Common netmask
problems
- how your computers find one another - ARP and RARP
- centralized configuration with DHCP. BOOTP
compatibility
- e-mail send/receive with SMTP
- e-mail collection with POP3
- DNS (domain name service) - how your domain name is
translated to a numeric Internet address
- HTTP and other protocols
- security - firewalls and packet filtering
- diagnostic techniques
Training course: Integrating Microsoft Windows Networking
into a TCP/IP network (three days)
- how Windows Networking differs from other TCP/IP
protocols
- NetBIOS name resolution; broadcasts; WINS; Active
Directory; DNS
- authentication and NT domains
- NetBIOS browsing - how Network Neighborhood works
- tips and tricks for using Windows Networking
- troubleshooting Windows Network with Windows Network
Monitor and other protocol analyzers
Penetration and vulnerability
testing
Penetration testing We partner with one of
Europe's top testing companies to provide on a regular (Monthly, Quarterly or
Once-off) basis, a thorough testing of the security configurations and
effectiveness of your Internet gateway security installation - by probing
remotely from the external Internet, in the same manner as any potential
intruder.
The testing searches for security vulnerabilities that can
be practically identified, including most recent at time of test. The
testing does not require access to the company network, servers, or to
privileged information such as computer account/password data - it is based on
the 'black-box' approach. The testing is "non-exploitative", i.e. security
holes are identified and reported to you, but they are not exploited. There is
no attempt to 'break-in' to any systems, and no on-site data files or hard
disks will be directly written to. You receive a written report,
containing:
- management overview
- summary of the problems discovered sorted by severity
- technical details of each issue complete with outline
associated recommendations
- full listing of the actual tests results tables
- notes on the scope and limitations of tests
A debriefing session by telephone can also be arranged if
required, to give you any advice or clarification you need.
SonicWALL Vulnerability Scanning Service
SonicWALL Vulnerability Scanning Service is an automated, subscription-based
security vulnerability assessment service that provides a "hacker's eye view"
of a network perimeter, including public servers, routers and gateways, and
remote ends of VPN connections. Using an Web-based interface, this service
generates detailed reports of security weaknesses and provides administrators
with in-depth guidance on how to address the risks.
