Filtering and traffic logging
Content filtering
controls access to Web pages on the basis of the URL string only,
not by inspecting the content of the page the URL points to. When
a client requests a page, the request is passed to the filter system
which looks up the URL in an internal database containing a huge
number of URLs and their classifications, to find out what type
of Web page the user requested. (E.g. pages on www.playboy.com contain
nudity and information on recreational drugs.) If the page classification
isn't allowed by the security policy that you have defined, the
page request is blocked.

Because
the filter system sees all page requests pass through, these systems
often include enhanced logging and reporting facilities.
