Author involvement
UIT's founder, Niall Mansfield, wrote several books (on technical computer subjects) before going into publishing.
UIT embodies the lessons learned working with other publishers:
- Writing a book is a big commitment. The publisher should try to make the job easier, not harder.
- Authors in technical subjects especially, like to have control over their own book and see how it's developing as quickly as possible. The last thing you want to do is spend a year hard at work, and then receive a set of proofs that are so horrible that you cry, and throw the things in the bin. (This has happened elsewhere.)
- We ask (but don't demand) that you get involved with promoting your book, because you know your field and the people in it. The more you're involved, the more you understand what's happening, and when.
