About Peter Jefferson
Peter Jefferson started working for the BBC in the 1960s. Most of that time he was a radio announcer and news reader, and this was how he came upon the Shipping Forecast which he was to read right up to 2009. After leaving the staff by way of early retirement, he decided to become a freelance "voice". He continued to work for Radio 4 much of the time but also did voice overs and appeared (vocally or in glorious colour) on various radio and TV programmes, including Eastenders, Panorama, My Family, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, The Mighty Boosh, The Bill, Peak Practice and Holby City. He currently reads the quotes on BBC Radio 4’s Quote … Unquote.
